Morah Dresner-Wais Update

Dear Parents,

What a great day we had on Sunday for our 2nd Annual Shaarey Zedek in Action program. Its always a wonderful feeling making a difference in the lives of others. Your children had fun making blankets, putting together lunch bags filled with sandwiches, fruit, and other healthy treats.  This event brings our unit of G'milut Chasadim together in a way of validating what the students are learning.

We continued talking about what it is to be a Jewish hero.  A Jewish hero is someone who takes care of the earth, gives to others, helps people, and helps a community.  We talked about how God created the Garden of Eden. Adam and Eve had a responsibility to take care of the earth, so do we. We learned the importance of keeping the earth clean for future generations. We discussed several ways we can all contribute to making the earth cleaner and healthier. The students understand that taking care of the physical world is an important obligation of G'milut Chasadim. God's work of creation of the land, animals, plants and people were all good creations.Trees are important as well as the land of Israel are all important creations of God.

The students learned that we could each contribute to keeping our earth clean and beautiful. We can conserve energy, cleaning up litter, plant flowers, and being involved in community service. We talked about how some of us contributed to our community by the activities we did on Sunday. The students drew a picture of themselves being a Jewish hero this week. They gave some examples of contributing to taking care of the earth. One example was picking up litter, or planting grass along with growing grass. They understand the concept of what it means to give back to their community without expecting anything in return. We will continue working on ways of helping our earth and being Jewish heroes.

We reviewed our letters and vowels and talked about what it means to keep kosher and what symbols to look for when buying kosher foods. We will continue learning our Hebrew letters and continue learning how to put sentences together.

Enjoy the rest of your week and have a wonderful Shabbat!

Thank you,
Lisa Dresner Wais
