Dear 7th grade Parents,
Not even the cold weather, return from winter breaks, or post New Year
festivities could keep us from furthering our Jewish education! This week was
Erin’s first official Sunday working with the students and we think it went
very well. This past Sunday, we did a recap of everything they had
previously learned in the first semester. Then, we took a look at what it
meant to be a Jewish adult after celebrating a bar/bat mitzvah. The students
discussed all the ways they can continue Jewish values as they grow up into
mature Jewish adults.
We took a break later on in the day for a new take on Tefillah. Usually,
students participate in a morning Tefillahwhile reciting the prayers in a
minyan, but we wanted to change the traditional morning service. With the help
of Tamarack Camps song leading and Rabbi Aaron Starr’s guitar playing, we did a
camp- like song session where the teens could connect to well know Hebrew
prayers through familiar camp music. We sang the Shema, B’etzelm Elohiem,
Kehilah Kedoshah, and the Mi Shebera. We sang these songs
because we felt they tied into our Community Unit that we will be focusing on
for the next few weeks.
Shabbat Shalom,
Erin and David
