Schlussel Hebrew Update

Dear Parents,

This past week we made good progress  in our Hebrew classes.
My fifth and sixth grade class are now up to page 16 in the Kol Yisrael 2 book. I gave them a sheet with the Barchu prayer to practice at home. If you have time, go over it with your child. We spent the last 15 minutes on reviewing our letters and vowels using no nonsense words. We will continue to do this every Sunday, as that is the day we have more time together. Hopefully this will help increase their reading fluency.

The fourth grade class is now divided into groups. My group began the Kol Yisrael 1 book. I gave them a sheet to be reviewed at home as well. This should only take them a few minutes. If you have an opportunity, listen to how well they can read it. We continue to begin our school days with Tefillot led by Cantor Gutman. He taught the students a new tune to the Yismachu prayer. Ask your children to sing it to you. See if they remember it. It is a peppy, lively version of the prayer.

Please remember that there is no school this Sunday. We will be in session again next Tuesday.  The students have a week to brush up on the reading sheets they brought home. I want to wish you and all your families a Gmar Chatima Tova, a good conclusion to the New Year season.

Shabbat Shalom and have an easy fast this Yom Kippur,  Toby Schlussel
