Shalom Chaverim - Hello Friends,
Welcome to our class. We are so excited to have your children with us this year and are certain that they will love learning in our classroom.
We will be learning so many exciting things this year such as traditions we observe for the chagim (holidays), brachot (prayers) we say on Shabbat (sabbath), tefillot we say in synagogue and at home, some basic Hebrew words. Not only will we learn about mitzvot but we will do them! For example, you are already doing a mitzvah by sending your children to religious school as it is commanded in the Torah and recited in the Shema.
“And you shall teach the Torah to your children and you should speak about it when you are at home and when you travel, before you lie down to sleep and when you wake up.” [Deuteronomy 6:7]
One of the first things we will learn is that every Jewish child has a Hebrew name. Our goal is to refer to your children in our class by their Hebrew names. We will make an “All About Me” poster incorporating our Hebrew names. If you could send a photographs of your child and a separate one of your family, we will be utilizing those in our Hebrew lessons.
We will be having a kosher snack in our class every week. We have found that it is easier for the families if each family supplies enough snacks and drinks at the beginning of the year for six students for five weeks worth of class. Please make sure that they have a hecksher (kosher symbol) and are non-perishable.
Please check out our website regularly for updates on what we are doing including photographs, calendar of Jewish Holidays and school calendar, books and songs that we sing all year and for specific holidays, and Hebrew vocabulary words that we use in our class.
We hope you feel free to visit our class anytime you want. We will be starting out in the Bride's room until our BRAND NEW classroom is finished. If you have any questions or concerns feel free to contact us via email at arianamentzel@gmail.com or emmazerkel@att.net.
Welcome to Gan Katan!
